Enhancing safety culture through cross-business collaboration

Our Building & Construction (‘B&C’) business line has enhanced its safety culture through an innovative partnership with Wisetail, an Intertek Company, which provides pioneering learning and development solutions.
Using Wisetail’s cutting-edge technology, B&C launched an interactive safety training library on Lucie, our global learning management system, replacing static learning with a more dynamic, engaging user experience. This approach is supported by a monthly ES&W newsletter to align leadership and staff on key metrics and a new ‘Safe Actions for Everyone’ (SAFE) recognition award programme. This programme encourages peer-to-peer nominations that recognise colleagues’ positive safety behaviours and actions.
SAFE nominations are reviewed weekly by the ES&W team, with Gold and Silver awards presented. Gold recognises specific, intentional ‘above and beyond’ safety actions, while Silver acknowledges good safety behaviours. Award recipients can redeem their award against quality branded merchandise in an online store, with different options available for Gold and Silver.
By implementing a strategy which prioritises engagement and awareness, we saw immediate results. Across B&C, use of iHazard, our global safety reporting tool, increased 40% year-on-year, proving that a more connected workforce is a safer workforce.
